Who We Are

Club Stairways is a community-based organization that focuses on recovery. The only organization of its kind in Butte County, Club Stairways offers its members community, friendship and opportunities for housing, employment and education. Club Stairways utilizes the "clubhouse" methodology for providing services. The clubhouse model is one of the oldest social/vocational rehabilitation programs for those with mental illness. This model is based on the Fountain House, which has been operating in New York since 1948 and has now been replicated in 400 communities in 28 countries throughout the world. The International Center for Clubhouse Development (ICCD) provides standards, training, and certification to ensure quality and consistency within its network of clubhouses. Stairways Recovery, one of the leading providers of housing for those with mental illness in Butte County, has partnered with the ICCD to develop an ICCD certified clubhouse in Chico called Club Stairways.

Recognizing that those with severe mental health disabilities are at a disadvantage when trying to access the diverse mental health services they require to live independently, we provide members with holistic psychosocial rehabilitation through a comprehensive range of social, vocational, housing and recreational activities. We also operate as an essential liaison between Clubhouse members and other services in the larger mental health community network.
