Mental illness is one of the most pervasive illnesses in Butte County, with more than one person in five suffering from some form of mental illness. Many people with mental illness have been told that they cannot work, and the loss in productivity is tremendous.
While some people may face physical barriers when trying to access the workplace, those with mental illness face emotional barriers. At Club Stairways we see our role as the 'accessibility ramp' that provides those with mental illness a smooth transition into the workplace.
We believe that, given the right environment, people with mental illness can become productive and employed members of society. Many Club Stairways members are willing and able to work.
Combining your employment opportunities with our on-the-job training and support, we can give members of our community suffering from mental illness the chance to work in the competitive job market, receive a paycheck and ultimately improve their self-confidence.
