Work and Employment

While an individual with a physical disability may face physical barriers when trying to access the workplace, those with mental illness face emotional barriers. At Club Stairways we see our role as the 'accessibility ramp' that provides those with mental illness a smooth transition into the workplace. We believe that, given the right environment, people with mental illness can become productive, contributing citizens.

When members first come to Club Stairways they often have an uneven work history, with gaps in their employment because they were unwell. We help members to secure jobs, train them and guarantee to the employer that the job will be done satisfactorily each day.

Collaborating with partners in the business community, Club Stairways is able to give people suffering from mental illness the chance to work in the competitive job market, receive the support they need to stay on the job, get paid a competitive wage and ultimately improve their self-confidence.

Club Stairways offers its members a full complement of employment opportunities to match every interest. Our Group Employment program offers members the opportunity to work together with a group of peers and staff. Transitional Employment provides members with part-time, entry-level employment opportunities and the support they need to stay on the job. Independent Employment provides members permanent employment and ongoing support.
